Annual Camp

18th - 26th July 2009

Where, When, How Much?

" This year we have decided to stay within the Country and make it, Crawfordsburn Scout Centre, (near Bangor, Co Down).
" Dates are from Saturday 18th until Sunday 26th July.
" The estimated cost is expected to be €250/€270. All will be confirmed once we receive final confirmation from a number of service providers.
" Deposits are now being taken, can we ask for a €20 deposit by the end of April please. Weekly instalments can be collected.
" Off Setting the Fee
To off set some costs we shall be bag packing in Supermarkets. (Dates to follow). The bag packing will work as follows….
Depending on the amount taken in the buckets an hourly rate will be calculated. If it is for example €5. and if "Johnny" packs for 5 hours, he will get €25 taken off his camp fee. If "Susie" packs for 20 hours she will get €200 taken off her camp fee. This method is fair and encourages scouts to soften the load on parents by putting in the hours.

The run up to Annual Camp
To make sure all Scouts are comfortable with 8 nights away, we have already had an overnight in the hall to make sure they are comfortable being away from home but indoors, the next camp is a 1 night camp on a mountain, to make sure they are ok in a tent, (note though mountain camping is basic!), next will be at least another 2 standing camps, with some more comforts. These will all be local. At that stage, we would be confident there would be no home sickness! Although we do have special stuff to cure it anyway.

What is included?
All Camping Fees for the week.
Transport
Activities, a 1st Draft of the activities is included, all activities are open for scouts to do, if scouts do not wish to partake in any activity we will not force them.
Full Food for the week, a survey of likes and dislikes was carried out. (attached) and a menu will be based around this and will follow in the next draft.

What is not included.
Pocket money! There is a little tuck shop on site, and we have mass on Sunday, followed by Swimming pool that has cans/sweets. A day trip is later on in the week where they may like to buy presents. As a rule of thumb, the more pocket money the money junk food they eat!
Camp bank has now opened for scouts saving their pocket money, Lodgements only in sterling please. Coins are excepted. Valerie is the Pocket Bank Manager. Advice is that all the pocket money for camp is lodged and not carried by the Scout. Sound free banking advice will be given at the start of the week and no "bulk" withdrawals will be allowed early in the week. All deposits and withdrawals is signed for by Scouts
